Development:  It is believed the Yellow Black Mouth originated in Texas somewhere around the early 19 th Century.  The Southern United States is well populated with cur type dogs that are used by local hunters and sportsmen. Boar, bear and coon are among the Black Mouth's quarry.  With medium-sized game, the Black Mouth catches and kills it (no questions asked).  It is also proficient at treeing and baying.
